melodi ramirez: unintentionally editorial

I grew up in Austin, Texas around music and art. It wasn’t until I was 21 did I realize I wanted to wanted to make my own mark. Growing up, I was the crafty one in the group, but I never found my niche. I finally had the opportunity to pick up a camera and document music, and I fell in love instantly.

My style of music photography I would say is intimate and unintentionally editorial. I love when a photo looks posed but it’s completely organic. I love to capture emotion and color grade with hues you can only find in dreams. Concerts have always been my favorite way to spend a night, so this job is surreal for me.

For portraits and more editorial style, I do like to catch moments of fluidity and whim. I love to play with shadow and sunlight to make my model look purposeful and accidental at the same time - like this moment is so quick you wouldn’t see it with your bare eye. I love playing with fabric, movement, and true emotion. I use song lyrics and music videos as inspiration for a lot of my shoots.

I love both mediums so much. My dream is to mesh my two worlds together. Working with artists creatively to put what goes on in their mind and in their lyrics to their listeners eyes. I love seeing how artists are venturing out and taking risks. Billie Eilish, Rico Nasty, Tierra Whack, Yungblud, Solange, Blood Orange, Omar Apollo, and so many more are becoming so multidimensional and setting a standard other artists should follow.
